1) when i run the game, if i accidentally press the hit button to select a fighting mode with p2 (which i have to do, since for some retarded reason p1 does not let p2 play even in coop) it gives me one of the following errors: blue screen of death, error number 1 or 2 or 4 or 5, no select.def file error, or a simple "this program has performed an illegal operation and will now be closed" error, all followed by a restart. what's wrong?
2) i have somewhat figured out the strange language in the one of the system files. the one that handles how things look when you select a char. my problem is that i can't get rid of the 28x28 squares that select the character.
3) i can not decrease the size of the selecting cursor thing
4) when i finally get to play, i get some debugging info which blocks half of the floor, which is ok.
but then i perform some strong hit, which causes crap to show up on the middle of the screen, which is not ok. typically a "this char got to an illegal stage from x to 100-125" (between 100 and 125) kind of thing. how do you remove that crap?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=kh4sqt2Ne3k
that video gives an example.
5) is there a universal way to add stuff to all mugens?
i found some video on youtube, but it only helps for winmugen no limit something patch (which i assume is a special version) when i do it on all others it does not recognize them.

1) I don't understand the dinamic of the problem. Need more details (what did you do, when the message appears, the EXACT and COMPLETE error message, and finnally if an error message appears when a particular char loaded).
----------------------
2) The file is "system.def". Go at
[Select Info]
and watch the params
cell.param
p1.cursor.param
p2.cursor.param
(example: cell.size = 28,28)
cell.bla params -> the squares (blocks that contains the faces) dimension and pictures (the image of the empty box). It is also needed to have the correct scroll of the cursor.
pX.cursor.bla params -> the picture and dimension of the cursor.
----------------------------
3) See previous answer
----------------------------
4) This becouse a char has some errors into its code OR doesn't have some required sprites. For example all my chars doesn't have recovery animation (it is not a real error, but Mugen shows the error message). If, instead, is a real error, this means that the author probably forgot something. However, if the character works well, this isn't a real problem.
------------------------------
5) Every Mugen relase Since the first relase of Linux Mugen / Winmugen has some differences. So you probably have to fix something if a char/stage was made for a previous version. In that case you have to fix problems MANUALLY by yourself, sorry.

man you might want to download a different version...
possibily the screenpack and / or code you got in there is not complete or for that version of mugen you actually have...
i'd start from scratch and make sure you download "no limit win mugen" with/ patch
if that's not the case (you are not on win) then dl linux mugen and use that on linux.... works great...
if you are on win 98 it's best to use dosmugen ;)

Wow, you just explained most of the common errors, they are easily fixed,
First off, for the crap that appears to the left, that's because you mugen is defaulted to debug mode, just go in you mugen.cfg file by using notepad, got to were it says, debug = 1 or something of that sort, remove the 1 and place 0 than save. you won't see the crap on the side no more, second off, change your p1 and p2 controls so their not identical, that should fix a few things, the rest I don't know, but, for the universal way to add stuff to mugen, I do know, technically, the only way is the universal way, just do the same thing you usually do to add characters and stages, if you need help on anything that you don't understand, just PM me.
